BETWEEN MORNINGS

Having written poetry at university, but not since, Karen believes this collection - her first - to have been motivated by sudden passion, an intensity, for life itself, as her children got older and moved away. It is this passion - for her family (percieved anew, as more than just 'the children'); for her work and for the people she was in relationship with - that underlies the poems along with a sense of change and loss - particularly with reference to the natural world. The seasons, the environment, the beauty and brutality, the death and rebirth of the countryside are juxtaposed and intermingled with her acute perceptions and desires.
